The Cursillo Movement in America Catholics Protestants and FourthDay Spirituality Kristy NabhanWarren 9781469607160 Books Reviews
- As one who has participated and studied the Cursillo movement for many years, this book give a very fair and ballanced point of view. I believe that the author very accurately put her finger on the several tentions between Demoninations, Diocese vs Parish, and local parish leaders vs a movement for Evangelism. For those working in a 4th Day movement, I would highly recommend reading this book to gain greater insights into the movement.
I also enjoyed the discriptions of the growth of the TEC. Teens Encounter Christ.
This is a very encouraging look at a powerful spiritual path that lead Christians into jump into the deep end Jesus' swimming pool.

An Episcopal Priest - Academically, a very enjoyable book to read in order to learn more about the historical events that have occurred toward today's Cursillo activities. The author broad sweep of how Cursillo has expanded beyond its Catholic roots is very interesting and informative. The author also writes, with a fair degree of detail (that I enjoyed particularly), about reasons for some inconsistencies in the Cursillo program, owing to who truly deserves credit for its founding. For example, apparently there is understanding in the Catholic programs that "husbands should attend a Cursillo before their wives", a "rule" apparently promolgated by the Spanish bishop that some give credit for founding the Cursillo program. The author, throughout, credits Bonnin as the founder of Cursillo, who apparently would not agree with such a rule. The book is well written, well researched, and, aside from an occasional missing word in text every 40 - 50 pages (I guess we can blame the editor or publisher for those omissions), it provides a very good, deep, broad, and educational understanding of the Cursillo Movement, likely the most effective means of conversion of souls since the Lord's original achevements by the early Church in the first few centuries of our past two millenia.
- This is the most comprehensive history of Cursillo and the various Protestant spin-offs.
I really appreciated that the author actually participated in both Catholic Cursillo
as well as a Kairos weekend. This book is not strictly an academic endeavor.
I have been involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry for 6 years, as well as attending
my Catholic Cursillo weekend 6 years ago. I have spent a good part of my adult life
as an evangelical Protestant, and was not aware that Cursillo (and its related programs)
even existed. Reading this book made me realize that God has been working greatly
within the Catholic Church and other more traditional branches of Protestantism.
My only complaint was that this book was not written 30-40 years ago. Cursillo has been
a well-kept secret to too many people. Thank you, Kristy. - Having been involved in the protestant movement of Cursillo, Tres Dias, it was interesting to see the research and findings the author did on covering the beginning of Cursillo and how the movement in American has expanded. Very well done.
- A must read for anyone involved in one of the Cursillo 72-hour Christian retreats. Comprehensive history that is clearly written.
- Very well reasoned a thorough book. I don't think the artificial distinction of "in covenant" movements belongs in this book. The author offers no rational basis for adopting what is tantamount to a "caste" system on movements that are all derived from the Cursillo. Other than that, it was an excellent read.
- This book is full of great information. Great explanations of why certain things are done certain way in Cursillo.
- good reference book tells a lot of the history
