The eleven lessons in this tutorial introduce you to the design capabilities of Creo Parametric 4.0. The tutorial covers the major concepts and frequently used commands required to advance from a novice to an intermediate user level. Major topics include part and assembly creation, and creation of engineering drawings. Also illustrated are the major functions that make Creo Parametric a parametric solid modeler.
Although the commands are presented in a click-by-click manner, an effort has been made, in addition to showing/illustrating the command usage, to explain why certain commands are being used and the relation of feature selection and construction to the overall part design philosophy. Simply knowing where commands can be found is only half the battle. As is pointed out numerous times in the text, creating useful and effective models of parts and assemblies requires advance planning and forethought.
Moreover, since error recovery is an important skill, considerable time is spent exploring the created models. In fact, some errors are intentionally induced so that users will become comfortable with the debugging phase of model creation.
At the end of each lesson is a short quiz reviewing the new topics covered in that chapter. Following the quiz are several simple parts that can be created using new commands taught in that lesson. In addition to these an ongoing project throughout the book is also included. This project consists of several parts that are introduced with the early lessons and finally assembled at the end.
Who this book is for
This book has been written specifically with students in mind. Typically, students enter their first CAD course with a broad range of abilities both in spatial visualization and computer skills. The approach taken here is meant to allow accessibility to persons of all levels. These lessons, therefore, were written for new users with no previous experience with CAD, although some familiarity with computers is assumed.
The tutorials in this textbook cover the following topics
- Introduction to the program and its operation
- The features used in part creation
- Modeling utilities
- Creating engineering drawings
- Creating assemblies and assembly drawings

Creo Parametric 40 Tutorial Roger Toogood 9781630570910 Books Reviews
- If you want to learn Creo Parametric 4.0 as a beginner or an intermediate user, then this book is for you. Obviously, the software is very complicated and versatile which makes it very powerful where this book will explain the details of creating 2D drawings and then into 3D models and saving them into a file for manufacturing. This book is basically a textbook for college students that takes you through 11 Lessons. Each lesson gives a step by step approach to learning specific tools of the software with a lot of diagrams and pictures from beginning to end of a project. The software has tons of commands imbedded in menus, and submenus inside of menus, and more menus inside of more menus making it extremely complicated, but if you have the time, the focus, the tenacity, the study habits, and patience without distractions to follow the lessons in this book, you’ll get it. For the most part, this book explains everything very well however, there are a few places that I considered ambiguous such that it brings you to a complete stop where you cannot go any further until you understand what the author is saying. It’s like the author suddenly got lazy and decided to skip over some steps. However, if you experiment a little with some trial and error, you’ll be able to figure it out….just ensure you make notes on the side in the book to clarify it for yourself if and when you ever need to come back to that section.
The only downside of this book is that if you want to use it as a “Reference†book, then forget it because the index in the back is absolutely horrible. The index has all the major commands and menus, but it lacks everything else. The submenus, the menus within menus, the lower commands, all the concepts of use, specific sections of material, etc., etc., are all non-existent making the index completely useless. The only way to find something in the book is to go back through several lessons again in the hopes you run into it…..frustrating! The Table of Contents has more insight and direction to locations than the Index, go figure that out.
Overall, as far as learning how to use the Creo Parametric 4.0 software I give this book a grade “Aâ€, but as far as using the book as a reference for later to find a command, a menu, a concept, or whatever, I give it a grade “Fâ€. - I think this is a great book for beginners in Creo. Having had no previous experience in Computer Aided Design this book is easy to follow along and lots of details explained thoroughly. Although the price is high I think it is worth it for the amount of information you will attain as oppose to watching tutorial videos
- Cost less than the university book store.
- There are only a few different things different in this book than there are in the 3.0 book
